The Egg Incident

I decided to make breakfast for my fellas.  I pulled out the eggs, bacon, fruit, and raisin bread.  I grabed a brown egg and cracked it, but the shell was so thin that the top “popped” off, and half the egg went on the counter and half in the bowl.  Well, brilliant me, tried to scoop the half on the counter in to the bowl, and part of it ended up going between the shelves and the sink.  The other half went neatly into our very heavy woven rope rug.
Then, I tried to dump the half that made it in the bowl in the trash.  Well, I missed again.  Half of it went on my pink smiley face sock and the other half ran down the front of the trash can.
Please God, please don’t let this be indicative of how my day will be.  At least I don’t have egg on my face.  Hahahahaha
Happy Sunday!

Freebirds

This week started out slow, but gradually picked up momentum (thank goodness).  I was starting to be depressed because I thought I had nothing to do but unpack, and the only potential job at the beginning of the week was a $10 collector job for Citi, that is 20 miles away….
Anyway, on the way to the Citi interview, as I was climbing in my car, a homeless man was climbing into the dumpster 20 yards away from me.  Talk about a reality check.
So, after a swift kick in the butt, I got my groove back.  Roger and I finally finished most of our unpacking and actually hung some art last night.  (I panicked when I was in the shower and he made a comment about how happy he was because he found his push pins (tacks).  I envisioned getting out of the shower to find nine million posters randomly tacked to every square inch of our walls.  I’ve never washed my hair so fast in my life!!!!)
Anyway, we also went to our first building “function”- Oktoberfest.  I don’t feel like we fit in at all, but then again, I can’t think of anywhere where I feel like I fit in…… Not a pity statement- just the truth….
We also went out and had a wonderful time at Fionn MacCool’s .  We drank Magners (and Guinness) and sat outside by the river while a cover band played songs like “Heart of Gold” by Neil Young.  Great memories for life.  Another good feature about where we live is we can walk to go out.  Much safer than drinking and driving.
I also started my mission to find a signature cupcake, with absolutely no luck yet.  I made a SMALL batch every day.  I attempted a white cupcake with chili flakes, and chili butter cream icing with caramel sriracha- bad idea I might add.  I also tried banana cupcakes with pumpkin icing- much better choice.  And coconut cupcakes with coconut, chili, rum icing- another bad idea.  Oh well.  I won’t be entering cupcake wars any time soon.
Last night, we went to a fun place at Jax Beach called Freebirds.  Three local bands signed up to do cover songs of the Ramones, Nirvana and Social Distortion.  They did a great job!  The venue was cool, inexpensive, and not crowded.  There was also a costume contest.   Neither Roger nor I can hear this morning though.  We should have worn ear plugs.
Finally, the best news of the week is that Alex is coming to visit today.  We found a Greyhound ticket for thirty-five dollars.  Much cheaper than driving!  He’ll arrive at noon and I’ll take him home on Tuesday.  I can’t wait to hug his neck and show him around.  I was surprised that he liked my suggestion that we try out some different types of public transportation while he’s here.  Since he’s car-less right now, and potentially headed to UCF in Spring, I don’t want him to feel like he can’t exist without wheels.  Public transportation is fun and inexpensive (and better for the environment).  Plus experience with public transportation helps you get around anywhere in the world!
So, Alex had two requests for while he’s here- a movie and a home cooked meal.  Chicken Parm coming up!  He’ll be here soon, so gotta run.
COMMENT ON MY BLOG!!!!! PLEASE?!?!?!

Rock n Roll Adventure

Hello.  I'm Roger, Doanyelle's husband.  For anyone who has never met me, it have a passion for music, arts, and cars. Every since I can remember, music has always had a strong influence over my life.
I went to Peru in September, to finish some business and to visit with my friends and family, since I don't know when I might have the opportunity again (without a restricted time frame). Coincidentally, while I was there, my friend Macha (vocalist for Aeropajitas), invited me to join the band on tour. It was like time travel back to  when I was younger, when I used to travel to follow musicians. The difference is that now, I travel in planes and stay in hotels (with showers)..... Jajajajaja.
We spent two days in a city outside of Lima, called Arequipa.  This city's architecture has a strong colonial influence/heritage. And, it surrounded by volcanoes.
Our first day there, we had to acclimatize ourselves to the  high altitude.  This was very difficult and the band members had headaches when it was time to play, later that night. Some genius had told us that it was a good idea to eat before heading to the concert, or consuming alcohol. So, we went to a Turkish restaurant- which ended up being a bad idea.  (Turkish food in Peru- nah!)

Around thirty minutes after we ate, we all had wicked stomach aches while we were trying to test the  equipment and do the sound check.  The equipment wasn't the only things making sounds!!!
The night was very rough. The crowd was mostly rowdy punk rockers from surrounding cities, like Puno, which borders on Bolivia. There were rivers of alcohol.  The venue only sold rum and coke.  Only the bands could have beer.  This is was different for me, because I was the one who used to get drunk at punk concerts, but I couldn't drink more than three beers- thank you Turkish restaurant.
The concert, was still a blast though, even though there was a rough crowd.  But there's one thing to say about this scene- the people outside of Lima are very grateful and friendly with foreigners.  They wanted my autograph and pictures, too, even though I was just the "equipment guy." Maybe they thought I was a rockstar!?!  Jajajaja
The second day, everyone was really tired and still suffering from a stomach virus.  We decided to head to the country side for some more wholesome food (pictures to follow in another post).   Later that night was the second concert, in a different venue.  It was an old house converted into a bar/concert venue/art gallery.  It was obvious that the  construction wasn't meant for this type of use.  The bands play on the open third floor- hard to imagine for a punk rock band. Neighbors- do they complain? Who knows?  Maybe they like it!  After the concert, the group split up.  Some stayed to drink all night, and the rest of us went back to the hotel to recover. (Saturday night drinking tea in a hotel room and watching talk shows with friends.  I'm old!) Suddenly, my friend said, "Wait a minute!  Aren't you getting married when you go home?  We should go out and have a bachelor party!"  Everybody laughed, and decided maybe we'd go out after the TV show was over.  But after the show, everybody was asleep.  We had to get up early to have the typical Sunday pork breakfast (pics of  this to follow in another post, too).
So, the adventure ended in Lima, with a huge festival.  I was invited to hang out at the green room backstage.  This was rock star treatment for me.  There was water, coffee, food, etc.  (This festival was promoted by the city, so there was no alcohol!!!!)  I will say that this was the best-organized festival I've been to in Lima.  So, this was my grand Rock N Roll adventure.  I'm know I'm not young anymore.  Things sometimes change for the better.  I know now, that I can enjoy a concert without alcohol.  I also know I'm still crazy after all these years.  Thank you. Regards, Roger.  See you soon!

The New Diet Plan

So, I picked up this crazy diet book in London, "Six Weeks to OMG: Get Skinnier Than All Your Friends," by Venice A. Fulton.  I'm always struggling with my weight, and find myself doing the most ridiculous things to try to slim down.  This, by far, takes the cake!

Here's the synopsis of how your daily routine should go (and there are no "days off"):

  1. Get plenty of rest
  2. Skip breakfast
  3. Take a 15 degree Celsius bath for 15 minutes
  4. Drink up to 200 mg of plain black coffee
  5. Exercise for 45 minutes
  6. Don't eat for 3 hours
  7. Eat.  1/2 of the plate should be protein- any kind, cooked any way, with no sauce.  The other 1/2 of the plate should be carbs and veggies.  You can have 1 piece of fruit per day (only certain fruits) and only with this meal.  Consume no more than 60 carbs per day.  Don't count carbs for most veggies.
  8. Wait at least two hours.
  9. Exercise for 30 min.  Wait for 30 minutes.
  10. Eat again.
  11. Wait at least two hours.
  12. Exercise for 15 minutes.  Wait for 15 minutes.
  13. Eat again.
  14. Blow up a balloon twenty times.
Other rules are: No snacking.  Consume Omega 3 and 6 everyday.  No foods with sugar or "ose" in the first three ingredients.  No hydrogenated fats or trans fats.  Drink lots of water.  Drink green tea. Lift weights every 10 days.  Only weigh one time per week- on the same scale, in the same place, naked (after you go to the bathroom)

Is anybody willing to try this with me?  No?  OMG!

Hey, Caucasians!

Roger and I went for a walk this evening.  Our new apartment in downtown Jax is surrounded by huge bank buildings, abandoned apartment buildings and churches.  There are so many homeless people sleeping and drinking in the parking lots and doorways.  To be honest, I was a bit nervous as it started to get dark, and had to take off my jewelry and slip it in my pocket, because I was worried that someone would read about the crazy girl (me) who attacked the mugger who tried to steal my wedding ring.  I waited a long time for that ring, and I'm not about to give it up.

Anyway, so we're walking along, and we passed a homeless man on the other side of the street.  He was carrying his shoes and socks, and trying to look into all the windows and doors he passed.  I looked the other way, because I always try to stick by the theory, "If I can't see you, then you can't see me."  Well, that didn't work.  When we were about 20 feet away, I heard, "Hey, caucasian people!" (?!?)  "Hey, caucasians!  I'm talking to you!"

So, what's the appropriate response to that?  We just kept walking.......

Honeymoon Pic

I love this picture from our honeymoon!

The Letter "F"

So, I'm watching Family Feud for the first time in many years.  The question was, "Name something that makes you happy that starts with the letter "F"?  These are the answers given...

  • Feathers (wrong)
  • Fuc**** , oh, I can't say that, can I?  O.k.,  fire trucks!  (wrong)
  • Funnel Cakes (wrong)
  • Friendship (ding)
  • Fingers (wrong) WTF?!
  • Fun (ding)
And I thought my family was weird. And the poor host, Steve Harvey was a charm!  It took everything he had to keep a straight face through this! Doh!......

Anyway, so our belonging are finally in our apartment.  I couldn't move my arms yesterday, so I couldn't type this update.  It took Roger and I and three movers (two BIG thumbs up to Little John's Movers from Ocala) 8 hours to accomplish.  We had to load our storage unit, then drive to Jax, then park in the road and bring the stuff down a parking garage ramp, up the storage elevator and through the maze of hallways, where my mom was waiting to direct where things should be placed.
I'm not as patient and calm as Roger, and I'm surprised he's still talking to me because I get grouchy when I'm hot and exhausted.  He is truly the most patient and loving husband anyone could ask for.

So, we're in.  Now we just have to find the right place for everything!  We love it here!

This is my husband, Roger!

I love being married. It's nice to introduce Roger as my husband. Telling someone, "this is my boyfriend", made me feel very juvenile.
I also love traveling with Roger. He's so much fun. We started our honeymoon in London. Our hotel, Tune Hotel, was nothing like I'd ever seen before. The room wasn't even 10x10. We had to pay extra to watch the mini T.V., extra for internet, extra for towels and extra for the blow dryer. It's the little things we take for granted in the U.S. Continental breakfast was not an option. And, EVERYTHING is ridiculously priced in London. A simple bottle of water is four or five bucks.  However, since we've both been sick, we've had no problem sharing meals.
So, our first two days, we saw Big Ben, rode the London Eye, which is a giant ferris wheel that costs about $70 for 2 people to ride one time around to see the city of London. We also walked our butts off to see Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus ( which is a shopping district, not a show), and many other sights. After two days, we rode a bus to Paris. We had a four hour delay because a train was stuck in the tunnel. Because I didn't take the time to think things through, I didn't realize our bus would be loaded in a cargo car, with us in it, and carted across a tunnel by train. I have claustrophobia, so this was an issue for me. In the end, we ended up in a great micro hotel is Paris, the Art Hotel Congress. Two thumbs up. Plus everything is cheaper and the food is better in France. The compromise is there's more people, they are less friendly, and it's filthy.
So in Paris, we saw the Arc de Triumphe, we walked along the Seinne, we went to the too of the Eiffel Tower and we shopped at the Marche des Puces flea markets. Roger bout me a lovely watch at the station. He's so kind to me.
Now, we're on a bus back to London. This time there is no delay, but the bus smells like urine and our driver is angry and keeps yelling obscenities in Spanish.
Another grand adventure!! Until next time.....
